Dr Mariam Aweidah
Faculty Lead for Palestine
Dr Mariam Aweidah made history in 2014 as the first female surgical resident at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah. Today, she stands alone as Jericho’s female surgeon, showcasing her resilience and innovation.
Her connection with the David Nott Foundation began in 2017 during her third year of residency. Attending our HEST (Hostile Environment Surgical Training) course in Ramallah, Mariam was inspired by Professor Nott and Dr Darwish’s experiences, forging a lasting friendship with our CEO Elly, amidst a course disruption caused by a water boiler explosion.
In 2018, Mariam’s pursuit of excellence took her to London and Manchester for our STAE (Surgical Training in Austere Environments) course, where she witnessed our dedication to surgical training in war surgery. This experience fuelled her passion, enabling her to deliver high-quality care for trauma patients in Palestine.
Mariam’s commitment extended beyond borders with a surgical mission in Somalia in 2022. Returning home, she became a mentor, passing on her knowledge to younger surgeons. Proudly engaged with the growing David Nott Foundation family, Mariam serves as Faculty Lead for Palestine. She stands as an inspiring figure, breaking barriers and leaving an indelible mark on the global surgical community.
