Dr Moez Zeiton
Faculty Lead for Libya
Dr Moez Zeiton is a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based in Manchester. His journey into humanitarian surgery began in 2011, when inspired by the events that unfolded in Libya, he joined a group of expat Libyan doctors providing frontline medical support managing battlefield injuries in Libya. He was also involved in advocacy and media work, and he was subsequently appointed as the national NGO coordinator for the Libyan Ministry of Health. This gave Moez an insight into international public health and diplomacy work.
On his return to surgical training in the UK, he was one of the early applicants to the David Nott Scholarship programme which supported him to attend the Surgical Training in Austere Environments course in 2017. This led to an opportunity working as a trauma surgeon with the World Health Organisation in Mosul supporting Iraqi colleagues managing battlefield injuries for four weeks. Since then, Moez has been a core member of our orthopaedic faculty.
Moez has recently been appointed as a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon and has also joined the foundation as a faculty board member, where he remains deeply committed to facilitating teaching and training for surgical colleagues around the world.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and maintains an active lifestyle playing football, open water swimming, road cycling, skiing and he closely follows Manchester United. He also works as a ringside doctor for the UFC.
