Our teaching tools
To give medical professionals the best possible learning experience on our courses, we work with designers and suppliers to create a bank of cutting-edge teaching tools. We are always looking for new ways to advance our innovations too, making our training world-leading.
With war wound and birthing simulators, silicone organs, 3D printed bones and a range of specially-designed prosthetic models, such as skin pads, blood vessels and windpipes, our teaching equipment gives trainees a unique opportunity to practice the vast range of trauma procedures and repairs they may face on the frontline.
War wound simulator
HESTON
Our practicals centre around Heston, our anatomically-correct human war wound simulator. It showcases a range of injuries seen in war, allowing doctors the opportunity to visualise wounds such as a head trauma or limb damage.
To deliver two frontline surgical courses at once and train even more doctors, we are working with a designer to create a second war wound simulator model. If you would like to help us fund it, please consider a donation.
Obstetrics & gynaecology
birthing & baby simulators
Caesarean section and difficult birth simulators help trainees practice their obstetrics skills and ensure they are prepared for multiple complications.
CERVICAL SCREENING MODEL
Our cervix simulator, used in Syria, allows trainees to practice cervical screenings and biopsies - vital procedures for diagnosing cervical cancer and getting women treated, sooner.
Organs & bones
Silicone organs
Intricately-designed hearts, kidneys, blood vessels, bowel and tracheas that mimic both texture and anatomical structure are made for us.
3d printed bones
To practice bone repairs, burr holes and external fixations that help bones to heal, we use 3D printed tibias, fibulas, pelvises and skulls.
Anaesthesia technology
Airway simulators
We use cutting-edge airway simulators and videoscopes to practice accessing airways in severely injured patients.
ULTRASOUND
Ultrasound is used to guide access to vessels after catastrophic bleeding and help doctors administer pain relief after serious trauma. It is also used to assess internal damage, with a Focussed Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST) scan.
Surgical equipment
Surgical instruments
So doctors can practice repairs on our models, we bring all surgical equipment and sutures with us. Where possible we source these locally, to make our training as sustainable as possible.
DONATE UNUSED ITEMS
If you have surgical equipment, sutures, surgical gloves or other items you wish to donate, please contact us.
