David and Elly Nott founded the David Nott Foundation to further the principles and improve the standards and practice of humanitarian surgery. The Foundation achieves this through the education and training of medical professionals and raising the profile of humanitarian surgery in the UK and worldwide.
I am delighted to express my support at the launch of the David Nott foundation. During my time as FCO minister responsible for the Middle East I spent far too much time dealing with the misery which was consequent on the terrible conflicts in the region. Rays of light were few. But the inspiring work of David and his medical and associated colleagues, who worked in such awful conditions to demonstrate the very best of humanitarian care and compassion, was one of those shafts of brightness in the gloom. I hope the foundation will be able to continue to promote the very best of medical practice through its work of training and developing those who sadly can expect to spend some of their professional time in dealing with trauma and other impacts of conflict. It deserves every success and I look forward to staying in contact with the foundation and its work.
